Lionel Town Hospital

The work continues in Lionel Town , Clarendon, Jamaica.

In May of 2023 Bishop Dr. Alford Miller – Senior Pastor of True Life Ministry, and Missions President, visited the Lionel Hospital which is based in Clarendon, Jamaica to reaffirm the Ministry’s commitment to the hospital. He met with the senior leadership of the hospital and presented them with needed medical supplies to thereby triggering a new round of funding by means of supplies and equipment. Bishop Miller was accompanied by Dr. O.C Barton, Rev. Pamela Barton and Pastor Michael Robinson.

True Life Ministry has a long-standing partnership and relationship with the Lionel Town hospital which began in 2012 when we undertook the task of supplying the Hospital with much needed medical supplies and equipment that are essential to patient care. For this undertaking, we partnered with Faith Care and the IMEC. The relationship with the Lionel Town Hospital and True Life Ministry persists today. We are pledging our continued support and aid to the Hospital to provide much needed medical supplies in their ongoing efforts to improve patient care for residence of Lionel Town and surrounding communities. The faithful and dedicated staff of the Lionel Town Hospital expressed gratitude and welcome the much assistance. The Hospital has been a bed rock in the community for as long as anyone can remember and a primary location of care for the southern region.

Southern Regional Health Authority - Lionel Town Hospital

The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the the parish of Clarendon operates as a Type C hospital with a 47 bed complement. This rural hospital serves a population of approximately 50,800 persons in the Southern section of the parish of Clarendon. The Hospital is staffed by approximately 145 clinical, administrative and support staff and provided services in the disciplines of: Minor Surgery, 24-hour Emergency Medical Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Physiotherapy (New Service).

Funding and needed equipment

The main sources of funding to this public hospital are from the Government of Jamaica and National Health Fund. The facility also benefits from generous donations in cash and kind from both local and overseas sources. This small hospital relies heavily on donations from kind partners such as Food for the Poor, The True Life Ministry Benevolent Project and individuals to provide well needed support to improve the facility’s capabilities so as to effectively manage the health of our patient population.
